Cheeky Monkey Sideshow comes to Asheville’s ABS Fest in June

Coming this June to Asheville North Carolina is the Americana Burlesque and Sideshow Festival. This is an event that you do not want to miss. Fun and Entertainment devour the AVL area for several days.

See the ABS Fest Website

See ABSFest on Twitter

The follow info comes from the Cheeky Monkey website:

It’s as much fun to watch as it is to say!

Cheeky Monkey Sideshow is the first and only Washington, DC area based theatrical sideshow, composed of performers whose combined experience exceeds 85 (that’s right, 85) years.

Born of a desire for something new in sideshow–while still preserving the rich history of its past–Cheeky Monkey Sideshow is a breath-taking yet beautiful cavalcade of the bizarre, the shocking, the grotesque, and the strange.
A unique form of entertainment that few will ever experience, but none will ever forget.

Cheeky Monkey Sideshow

It can’t be real, but it IS!

YMI Historical Series – Slavery in WNC

YMI Historical Series Part 2: Life Beneath the Veneer  “The Beginning” will feature the theme of slavery in WNC

Saturday April 23, 5pm – 7pm, YMI Cultural Center, Ray Auditorium

Darin Waters will continue to share his historical research and insights into the pre-emancipation experiences of African Americans in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina. Through examining records of the time, Darin is unearthing a different picture of African American life in Western North Carolina than what has come to be accepted as fact.
This event will feature two musicians from the Asheville area:  Kimberly Cann is a concert pianist who has performed and taught internationally; Bryant Belin is a Bass-Baritone soloist and the owner of VP Music Studios.  Concert arrangements of spirituals by African-American composers comprise their program, including “Troubled Water,” an arrangement of “Wade in the Water” by Margaret Allison-Bonds, and “Deep River” by Moses Hogan.

Also enjoy an interview of a local historical figure.

Admission: $20. For further information or to purchase tickets, please call (828) 252-4614
