An Amazing Wine Dinner in Asheville!

What do you get when you put Domaine Serene Wines together with the glorious cuisine at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Asheville NC? An amazing wine dinner, so many moments of culinary satisfaction, the pleasure of friends, meeting new people, and great memories added to our lives. WOW! What an evening!!!

It all started when I walked in the doors to Ruth’s Chris in Biltmore Village. I told the hostess that I was here for the wine dinner and she escorted me to the back room. Tony, the manager, handed me a glass of wine as I entered and I proceeded to find a seat. A few moments later, my friend Mackensy walked in, so we decided to go seat hunting together. We got settled and met the folks to our right and left. Great people all around.

After a quick welcome from the Ruth’s Chris Asheville GM Gabe Fore; Special Guest Michelle Farkas of Domaine Serene was introduced, and the courses of wine and food decorated the table in front of us. The conversations quickly changed from common to Ohhh, Ahhh and Ummm. I definitely loved what I tasted and heard.

The Hors D’Oeuvres: Venison Wellington, Goat cheese-stuffed grapes with pistachio crust, Hamachi and Yellow Fin “Dueling” Tuna. Wine: Domaine Serene Rose, NV. Next was the Bisque: Roasted apple, butternut squash. Wine: 2010 Domaine Serene Coeur Blanc.

Main Courses Included: Macadamia-Crusted Mahi-Mahi with Lo mein noodle, togarashi & pineapple beurre blanc, complemented by 2008 Domaine Serene Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir. Smoked Duck Breast with Veal demi, beet cous cous, with a 2009 Domaine Serene “Jerusalem Hill” Pinot Noir. USDA Prime NY Strip with Root Beer & peppercorn reduction, creamy mushroom polenta, coupled with 2009 Domaine Serene Grand Cheval.

Just when we though every taste-bud imaginable had been reached, a Chocolate Creme Brulee with Peppermint bark appeared on the table. The aroma from the Smoky Mountain Coffee Roasters was in a cup to my right calling me.

An Amazing Wine Dinner such as this one at Ruth’s Chris in Asheville NC is usually $75 – $100, and worth every cent. Tremendous! Thank you.

Asheville Lunch, Brunch & Dinner at Latin Flavor Cafe

A new restaurant has recently opened on the eastside of Asheville called Latin Flavor Cafe. If you remember the old Shoney’s location, then a BBQ joint, then DJ’s Diner… this is where they have opened at 1360 Tunnel Rd. They are taking on a huge endeavor in creating an eatery of this caliber in the East Asheville area. I would say it is more comparable to Salsa’s and Chorizo in the downtown AVL area.

We talked to Sofia, one of the owners, and she said that Cuisine from Latin America is their main focus. The dishes include features from Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Spain, Chile, Puerto Rico and Colombia. We stopped by and had a great variety of foods and all of them were delicious! The Paella is incredible, and even the Cuban Sandwich on French bread was a yummy twist.

Latin Flavor Cafe is open Monday – Thursday 11am – 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am – 10pm, and Sunday Brunch 10am – 3pm. Their phone number is 828-575-2179 and you can also find them on Facebook LatinFlavorCafe & Twitter @LatinFlavorAVL.

Dinner at Bistro 1896 in Asheville NC

With all of the great eateries opening in Asheville, I sometimes forget about good places to eat like Bistro 1896. I stopped by the other evening for a bite and it was great.

First I had the Ceviche and it was delicious. And for the main course, I had the Strawberry Trout dish. The hostess and service was good, and the manager even stopped by to check on our table to check on the meal and the table service. Everything was yum and I will make it a point to stop by there again soon.

A fabulous dinner in Asheville NC

We stopped by the 151 Boutique Bar & Kitchen in Asheville recently for a taste of their new menu offerings.  It was a fabulous meal to say the least.

The 151 Boutique Bar is located inside of Asheville’s Hotel Indigo, and it has always been open to the public. As a matter of fact, you can drive around the circle in front of the hotel, and get a parking deck pass card from the front desk to park in the lower garage. Just tell them you are here to eat or drink at 151.

Of course, I like to have dinner here, listen to Ben Hovey play some live music, have a few cocktails and spend the night in luxury in their beautiful rooms. But, sometimes I have to go home, which is about 5 minutes away.

The classy contemporary atmosphere, gorgeous bar and incredible food puts them in the Top 10 places to eat in downtown AVL. I have put the captions below each on of the photos.

At the beginning of the meal, we were presented with a salad that included local spring greens, garlic toasted walnuts, gorgonzola, citrus vinaigrette, and an English cucumber wrap.

The next course was a crabcake. And this one was so good! A far cry from the over-breaded crabless ones we have grown to get used to. A local company called Blue Water Seafood supplied the crabcakes to 151.

Next we had a sorbet teaser, to clean the palate. Made in house and Yum!

Then came the main course: Delicious pasta and sausage, both made in house at the 151 Boutique Bar. The Italian in me got excited!

A delicious Espresso Bean Martini was our dessert cocktail. Thank you!!!

We completed the meal with some tasty Mango Creme Brulee. And yes, it was the perfect ending. Wine from their great wine list paired each one of the dishes above.

If you live in the Asheville area, or if you are planning on visiting; make sure you stop by the 151 Boutique Bar and Kitchen.
