Ok, so Skyland is getting ready to re-brand some and wants to get the talent of the local Asheville community behind it. As you can see, the logo Skyland Distributing has is just not good enough.
Skyland Distributing is now accepting entries for their new logo design contest. Here are the rules, prizes and deadlines:
1. Logos need to be submitted in 3 styles/sizes – 100 x 100, 200 x 200 and one with their QR Code incorporated in it – by July 20, 2011. The logos will then be on display and the Winners will be chosen by a Facebook, Twitter and Staff vote by August 1, 2011.
2. Prizes include: $600 in prizes for 1st place including a Kayak and/or Mountain Bike, $300 in prizes for 2nd place, and $100 in prizes for 3rd place.

Great opportunity for a local designer to show off their skills, have a nice portfolio project, and automatically be hired for additional work.
Living in a City built on beer and great people is a thrill. Craft beer, aka Boutique Beer is something a lot more enjoyable than the typical commercialized brews that are normally available to the mainstream. Asheville and Western North Carolina has created a beer based subculture that is pretty hard to match for the size of City that we are. On top of that, technology comes in the play because many are beer drinking bloggers and tweeters that stand together when it comes to defending our town or title. Here is a quick video that G Social Media took this afternoon at Barley’s to celebrate the Beer City USA win.
Asheville has won Beer City USA for the past 2 years in a row and we definitely want to keep this title in 2011. When you put the number of breweries together with the number of people in our City; we have clearly tipped the scales. This town is microbrewery HEAVEN! Boutique Beer Utopia if you may. You wanna drink great brew? WE GOT YOU!
Heading north from downtown Asheville on Merrimon Ave, there are a few key stops you may want to make when on the hunt for great beer on tap.
1. Luella’s Barbecue – One of our favorite places for barbecue in the Asheville area. Lots of craft beer on tap and also a full bar. Bar area and full restaurant.
2. The Bywater – This place is the Beer Only bar. Lots of taps and also wine and cocktails available. Great Asheville Beer setting and crowd. No food available, beer snacks periodically, allows outside delivery from places like Favilla’s NY Pizza, Valet Gourmet, etc. This is the only bar on the list that is not on Merrimon Ave, but it is worth the small detour.
3. Asheville Pizza – Great selection of local craft beer from their brewery and also several guest taps. Pizza everywhere, also a game room and movie theater. Nice place for the whole family.
4. Avenue M AVL – 14 taps, an outside patio, a full restaurant and a nice lounge area. Great food and cocktails.Tuesdays are local craft beer on tap night and trivia night. This is one of our favorite eating spots on the northside of town. Try the beef medallions appetizer!
5. Northside Grill – Lots of beer on tap including several local craft brews. Also a full restaurant, pool tables upstairs, jukebox and 2 bars. This is the last stop north before heading past Beaver Lake and into the Woodfin community.
6. Mother and Son Bistro – 3 beer taps and getting ready to possibly go to 8 locals and craft beer. No bar area, only tables inside and outside, but a beer bar may be coming soon. Full restaurant with many baked goods and desserts. Local beer used periodically in certain special cooked dishes. This is the furthest spot north before hitting Weaverville, where Blue Mountain Pizza and Jack of Hearts will be reigning and our choices when we are out that way.
