Downtown Asheville is the central section of the Asheville North Carolina community. Other local areas in the community include Biltmore Village, River Arts District, and North, South, East and West Asheville. You will find that downtown Asheville is a melting pot that consists of locals from all ends of the County, tourists from all ends of the Country, and visitors from around the World. There is a lot to experience around here. One of the best things that we tell people to do when coming here, is to simply walk around downtown on a Friday night. Listen to the streets musicians, tour the art galleries, dance at the drum circle, grab a sign and join a protest on Pack Square, go to a concert, ride a horse-carriage ride, grab a hula-hoop and start spinning, hang out at one of the breweries, eat the cuisine, and just celebrate life whether your are by yourself, with friends, or with your family!
Downtown Asheville is also the Freak Capital of the southeast, so if you are looking to come and help “Keep Asheville Weird” with us, you are so welcome. The one thing about the area is that most folks are cool. We pretty much all get along. Although some visitors are surprised, most pretty much know to expect anything. Hippies? We have them galore. Some even refer to downtown Asheville as Hippie City USA. Whoever you are and wherever you are from; you will find a place to fit in here.
