Western Carolina University was founded in 1889 to bring higher education and career opportunities to WNC. A member of the UNCA system, WCU now provides an education to 9,000+ students coming from 38 states and 32 countries. Located in Cullowhee NC, near the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge mountains, fifty-two miles west of Asheville. The campus has approximately 600-acres. 82 percent of all classes have fewer than 30 students; average class size is 19; student/faculty ratio is 13 to 1.
