Plenty of folks visit Asheville North Carolina all year long. Some figure out what to do before they get here, and others come here looking. What are some of the things, according to you, that they must do? This can include activities, landmarks, tours, place to eat, beer drinking spots, wine, shopping, or whatever you recommend.
It’s not a visit to Asheville without beer — or cider of guests who aren’t into beer. Downtown and South Slope are great locations to “brewery hop” with stops like Asheville Brewing Co., Hi-Wire, Twin Leaf, Burial Beer, Wicked Weed Green Man, Catawba and Brahmani. Branch out of downtown and the list seems limitless.
River Arts District combines art, casual dining and beer in one stop.
Lastly, no Asheville trip is complete without a hike. Waterfalls are very popular destinations — but I really like the moderate 3/4-mile ascent to Craggy Summit. At just over 5700 feet elevation, the view is spectacular.
I always point visitors to the South Slope, which is home to many of my favorite breweries in the area. Wicked Weed Brewing, Asheville Brewing Company, Hi-Wire Brewing, Twin Leaf Brewing and Greenman Brewing are some of the best. Asheville boasts of unique shops that sell local arts and craft, like Kress Emporium. If you are here on a weekend, the drum circle is a must see. After all that shopping and drinking I suggest a quick lunch at Farm Burger, don’t let the line scare you the food is worth it!
Visitors should definitely check out a few local restaurants because our food scene is a big part of our identity in Asheville, we’re proud of our food. Probably every other person you see in town has a tattoo and they’re probably a local, we have a ton of great tattoo shops all across town, if they’re feeling ballsy, I’d say check out one of our local tattoo artists and create a memory that lasts forever.
Friday night drum circle is a definite must! Also the LaZoom (purple bus) tour. It doesn’t always have to be about the Biltmore House. There is SO MUCH to do in the Asheville area. Touring the breweries, RiverArts District, the Grove Arcade & shops, and so much more!
