If you are in Asheville; Sushi is not hard to find at all. There are many spots that make decent Sushi in the area. Sushi is a Japanese dish, but the restaurants that serve it are usually Chinese owned and operated.
I have to say, if I am in downtown Asheville, Champa is the place I go to for great Sushi. When in Downtown Hendersonville, it is UMI. Of course I have tried just about all of the places in town, and compared the food, service and experience. After a bunch of balanced comparisons, I do not go to Ichiban anymore. I have went to Wasabi one time in the past few years and that was for a business meeting. I will go to Kubos in downtown Asheville sometimes and I will go to Zen Sushi on Merrimon Avenue if I am on the northside of town. The Sushi at Asiana Grand Buffet is not my style either. I like specialized food and they just do not have it. As far as I have heard, Yao is about the same. Buffet style Sushi is not for me.
Green Tea Sushi on Patton Avenue in West Asheville is pretty good, but when they tried to open up on the southside of town, the business flopped. They just could not properly manage running and keeping consistent quality at two businesses in town. So it has shut down, and Sogo Fusion has now opened in the same spot.
Tonight was my first experience at Sogo Fusion. I have to say that this is now my Sushi spot of choice if I am not in downtown Asheville or Hendersonville NC. I got to meet the owners Johnny, Joe and Mandy and they were great people who talked about their dedication to a delicacy food and getting involved in the community more. For Sushi, I will drive from Biltmore Village to South Asheville just to eat at Sogo now!
Tupelo Honey Cafe is across the street from them, and Frankie Bones is right next door to them. And if you want some dessert Rita’s Custard is right next door as well. Sogo is located at 1840 Hendersonville Rd, Asheville NC 28803.
