Asheville 2-1-1 of WNC celebrates 10 years with an open house

ASHEVILLE – United Way’s 2-1-1 of WNC celebrates 10 years in the 2-1-1 call system this year with an open house from 1-3 p.m. Monday, May 2 at 2-1-1 of WNC at the Community Services Center at 50 South French Broad Avenue in Asheville.  While United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County had provided community information and referral services through First Call For Help since the 1970’s,  it wasn’t until the switch to the 2-1-1 call system that this critical service became firmly established in our community.

Adoption of the 2-1-1 call system allowed:

simplified access

·All our residents need to remember are three numbers – 2-1-1 – to access information about community resources.

increased access

·2-1-1 of WNC’s online database is searchable by any individual or service provider.

·Trained and certified referral specialists are available by phone 24/7 and offer accessibility to speakers of all languages through a statewide, real-time translation service.

·We widened our range of services so that today 2-1-1 of WNC encompasses a four-county region of Buncombe, Henderson, Madison and Transylvania counties.
